Draft law on the protection of whistleblowers in the public interest referred to the President of Romania for promulgation

15.12.2022

On 15 December 2022, the draft law on the protection of whistleblowers in the public interest was referred to the President of Romania for promulgation. The draft law was adopted by the Chambers of Deputies of Romania on 13 December 2022.

The transposition deadline for all EU Member States expired on 17 December 2021.

As a context, the draft law was first adopted by the Romanian Parliament in June 2022, but the President of Romania requested its re-examination due to several concerns on the incorrect transposition of certain provisions of the Whistleblowing Directive EU 2019/1937.
