On 17 December 2020, the European Commission announced approving the acquisition of Fitbit by Google, following an in-depth investigation focused on the data collected via Fitbit’s wearable devices and the interoperability of wearable devices with Google’s Android operating system for smartphones.
However, the approval decision is conditional on full compliance with a commitments package offered by Google to address the Commission’s competition concerns.
