On 1 August 2024, the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) enters into force as Regulation (EU) 2024/1689.
This entry into force comes 20 days from the date of publication of the regulation in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The regulation will mainly become applicable 2 years as of the entry into force, with certain exceptions.
Amongst such exceptions, the following provisions will become applicable in 6 months as of the entry into force of the AI Act:
- the prohibition of using AI systems with unacceptable risk, and
- the obligation to ensure AI literacy.
