On 18 March 2021, the Italian Competition Authority announced that it had applied a EUR 2M fine for misleading consumer practices and unlawful data processing in the context of an app offering auto insurance policies.
In a nutshell, the authority found that the investigated company shared users’ information with insurance companies and intermediaries without adequately informing them about the collection of their data and the purposes of data processing involved, and thus, the consumers were unable to make an informed choice.
