EDPS releases website evidence collector tool

14.01.2021

On 12 January 2021, the European Data Protection Supervisor (“EDPS”) announced completing the development of its tool for the automation of privacy and personal data protection inspections of websites.

The open-source software tool collects evidence of personal data processing, such as cookies or requests to third parties. The collection parameters are configured ahead of the inspection, and then the collection is carried out automatically so as to allow website controllers, data protection officers, and end-users to better understand which information is transferred and stored while visiting a website (i.e., the consecutive loading of a number of web pages without giving consent or logging in).

The full press release is available here, and the software is available for download on this webpage and on the development platform GitHub.
