LIBE meeting on the future of EU-US data transfers

On 3 September 2020, the European Commissioner for Justice, the EDPB Chair, and NOYB Founder Maximilian Schrems participated in a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (“LIBE”) in order to discuss on EU-US data transfers matter following the CJEU invalidation of the Privacy Shield framework.

The key points resulting from the discussions include the following:

  • the European Commission will work on the revision of the Standard Contractual Clauses and hope to finalize it by the end of 2020;
  • the EDPB currently works on adopting more recommendations to support businesses affected by the CJEU ruling.
