On 29 June 2022, the Chamber of Deputies adopted the Law on the protection of whistleblowers in the public interest. The new law was adopted to transpose the Directive (EU) 2019/1937 on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law (‘the Whistleblowing Directive’) into national law.
The adopted law regulates the procedure for receiving, examining and resolving reports of violations of the law that have occurred or are likely to occur, including within private legal entities. Among other things, it provides for the obligation to identify and establish internal reporting channels. As regards private legal entities with between 50 and 249 employees, this obligation will not enter into force until 17 December 2023. The adopted law is to be signed by the President and is expected to enter into force within three days as of publication in the Official Gazette.
